U.S. Candidacy for the UNESCO Executive Board

The United States is committed to supporting UNESCO in its mission, its priorities and its global objectives. It is the largest overall contributor to UNESCO, providing 22 percent of the organization's budget, but also makes significant extrabudgetary contributions for a variety of programs, including the World Heritage Committee, Intergovernmental Oceanic Commission, Creative Cities, and the International Institute for Educational Planning.

The United States believes it can it can play an important role in furthering UNESCO's goals and objectives through membership on its Executive Board. As a member of the Executive Board, the United States pledges to bolster quality learning for all, strengthen the role of science at UNESCO, empower youth as positive agents of change, encourage the development of independent and pluralistic media, and harness the power of cultural heritage and creative industries.
